Girl injured in crash involving Britt Reid emerges from coma

The 5-year-old girl who was in a Missouri car crash involving former Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid has awoken from a coma, a relative announced.

The young girl, identified as Ariel, woke up Monday, according to an update posted to a GoFundMe page by her aunt, Tiffany Verhulst.

Ariel was inside a Chevrolet Traverse driven by her mother when it was struck by a white Dodge Ram driven by Reid near the Chiefs practice facility at about 9 p.m. Feb. 4, authorities have said.

The Traverse had been pulled over on the side of a highway entrance ramp when the crash occurred.

Reid told police he had “two or three drinks” and had a prescription for Adderall when the accident occurred, according to a search warrant.

Police have said they are investigating whether Reid, who has a previous drunk driving conviction on his record, was impaired before the crash.

Following the crash, Reid was placed on leave through the duration of his contract, which has since expired.

A 4-year-old child also sustained non life-threatening injuries in the crash.
