Mets closer Edwin Diaz has another strong outing

Observations from Mets spring training on Saturday.

Lights out

Edwin Diaz fired a scoreless fifth inning with two strikeouts Saturday night against the Nationals in West Palm Beach, Fla. In three appearances this spring (three innings) the right-hander has not allowed a hit and struck out five.

Villar miscues

Jonathan Villar started at third base and committed two fielding errors. The Mets are trying to get him acclimated to the position this spring. He last played there during the regular season in 2016.

Caught my eye

Kevin Pillar stole second and third base against Joe Ross and Alex Avila after drawing a walk.

Sunday’s schedule

David Peterson is scheduled to face the Cardinals in Port St. Lucie, with Taijuan Walker throwing in a “B” game. Aaron Loup, Corey Oswalt and Arodys Vizcaino are among the other pitchers scheduled to face the Cardinals.
