NJ child dead, mother injured after dog attack

A 3-year-old child was killed and his mother seriously injured after they were attacked by two dogs Tuesday afternoon in New Jersey.

The tragic incident unfolded at a house on East Laurel Street in Carteret, New Jersey, ABC New York reported.

According to one witness, it appeared both mom and son were playing with the dogs before the vicious attack. Neighbors then called 911 when they heard screaming, ABC7 reported.

The Mayor of Carteret, Dan Reiman, tweeted his condolences to the family Tuesday night.

“Our prayers are with the family affected by a dog attack at a private residence on Laurel St. Thank you to the first responders who rushed in to attend to the victims, who are being transported by helicopter for emergency medical care. That’s all the info we have at this time,” Reiman wrote.

Police have not released the name of the woman or the child.

The investigation is ongoing.
